Fred Diaz, the beating of a drum is music to his heart. The 59-year-old
retired accountant has been beating that drum most of his life. From humble
musical beginnings, he's now drum major for the Alamo City Community Marching
Band, which he founded. |

taken their batons, woodwinds and brass instruments out of the back of
the closet. They’re using muscles they forgot they have. Throughout
San Antonio and surrounding counties people from 18 years old up into
their 70s are practicing their old band instruments and rehearsing their
parade marches.
